Is It Worth It To Blog?

My Old Yard

Quite often when I check the blog stats I get a bit depressed. Gardening blogs are numerous. So many of us love to garden and share our backyard adventures, but at the same time gardeners know everything other gardeners know – don’t they? So why read someone elses blog when you already know it?

This blog began as a hydrangea themed blog. The only trouble is, I have hydrangeas growing in my yard for about 6 months and flowering for about three. So what to write about the rest of the time? Blogs need to be constantly updated to stay fresh. I spend time writing at Wizzley too, and I used to add pages to Squidoo, but I have just quit that site for reasons I won’t go into and get all ticked off again. But my main online focus is Zazzle. It’s where I earn my bread and butter. I get no money from blogging, other than the few potential customers who visit BlueHyd from this page.

I write this blog because I love to dig in the dirt. My grandfather did it, my father did it, and so do I. I have the chance to share what I love to do with others from around the world, even if visitor numbers are small. So it’s worth it to blog and share my photos as I plant and harvest. I hate to pay attention to stats. They seem to say “you are failing at this”, but I’ve decided I won’t pay attention to that. The outdoors is calling and I’m taking my camera (right after is stops raining).

  1. That is why I have been neglecting my other blogs. Some are tedious to update and some leave me at a loss now for what to write. I definitely need to downsize and I am working on that.

  2. I’ve been wondering the same thing, Pam. I signed up at a website that offers classes on blogs. I’ve only been on it for a couple of days. I’ve gotten a couple of good tips already. One is blog on a subject that you’re passionate about. Don’t worry if there are a lot of blogs on the subject already. Ask yourself what you’re offering your readers. You need to offer them something. I enjoy reading your blog, and I say keep doing it only if you enjoy it.
