I was on vacation in Florida, visiting my son, when I logged onto his computer to check e-mail and check in at Zazzle. I signed in, and went to one of my ten stores and it was white. All white. No banner was showing at the top and all the categories and products looked very different. My jaw dropped, and I quickly headed to the forum to find discussions about the new look. I had missed all the talk about it because I was planning my trip.
I gathered that the changes had been made to make the entire site more compatible for mobile devices. It also makes every product flow together better without all the individual choices for colors and themes. I don’t know much about all that stuff (not a techy person here) so I trust that what Zazzle is doing will be a good thing for those of us selling from there. It has, however, made work for the shop-keepers. New banners are needed for each store. This gives me a chance to make better banners as I was not happy with all the banners I previously had up. But it takes time.
Also, our categories are a mess. Old titles are mixed with new block titles that Zazzle has added and we have a limit of 12 to use now. Since I can’t seem to do anything to group my sub-category lists as I want, I will be changing that around in my BlueHyd store and organizing wedding sets by color.
My goal has always been to make the shopping experience as easy as possible for my customers, but now with all the moving of products, many links I have made that lead back to the design page (if you can find a link) will not work, I am afraid. After moving all the products around and making new categories, I may have to spend days making new links.
On top of all this, it seems that the new page setup has been directing more customers to contact me to make requests. I never mind helping anyone, but that aspect has made me busier as well. Busy is good – I am not complaining!
So, it’s all good, but it’s also adding time to my workday. Guess I’ll have to give up weeding the gardens and cutting the grass….. ! If you visit my BlueHyd store, or any of my stores, and they seem a bit out of whack, this is why. It’s also why my blogging and designing will have to wait as I make the necessary changes for customer convenience. As always, feel free to ask me for help if you need something made.
